From glass plates to instant prints, we didn't just participate in photography's evolution, we pioneered it.
Founded in 1905, EGK began with a simple but profound mission: absolute precision. Before Bangalore became a modern metropolis, we were documenting its soul with heavy wooden cameras and chemical mastery. We established an authority built on craft and vision, creating an enduring legacy that set the standard for generations of photographers to follow.
Pioneers of the Plate Era
Before the era of modern photography, capturing light was calculation and patience. We were among the first to introduce colloidal plates to India, importing advanced techniques to capture some of Bangalore's earliest, fragile frames.
The Studio Shift
Moving beyond fragile glass to individual sheet films made professional setups more practical. We established dedicated spaces for portraiture that preserved depth while simplifying the setup.
The 35mm Arrival
As index cards turned into a new era for India, we pioneered portable 35mm systems in Bangalore, taking photography out of static studios and into the hands of beginners, making everyday memories accessible to all.
The Color Monopoly
Developing color film meant a one month wait as rolls flew to Bombay or Singapore. Our father set out to break this delay, introducing color films sensitive to all colors of light in its perspective, making photography incredibly exciting for amateurs.
A National Breakthrough
We were instrumental in facilitating the import of QSS photo lab machines which were under the banned items list at the time. This breakthrough changed the entire photo lab scenario in India, enabling high-speed film processing and a 60-minute turnaround.
